Ok guys, after looking at the library for the first time in a while, I noticed that sacred-magick dropped crowley as free (after they said it was to remain always free ...-_-) and it as a whole has fallen into shambles. So, I just went and downloaded about a hundred or two hundred or so books and am now looking to see if anyone here has web space to help host a very large library...several hosts may keep space and bandwidth down, so anything would help. I'd also like to call together a crack library team to help keep it in order as I myself am not so good with the wiki code (I in fact hate it... but love the result). I am also not on as much as I would need to be to fix it all up, and I am online more than I wish to be as is, so for this to work, a team should be assembled. I cannot grant any special titles or extras as a part of this, its strictly volunteer work.

Staff should be any of these (not necessarily all)

* competent in wiki code
* Host a web server
* know web coding
* have a love of reading
* time to organize and look for more books

So, If anyone wants to constantly help out, post here. If you notice a broken link or have a book, you can add it yourself without the teams help, if you feel your capable. The wiki can after all be edited by all.

So, any takers?

I don't think that would be too much of a problem.

Let me throw in that since moving to the new server a bit ago, Veritas itself has plenty of bandwidth and disk space for purpose of hosting ebooks.  The only requirement must be that we cannot afford to host books that are under copyright and for which we do not have permission to host (due to constraint of our hosting provider).  But any ebooks that have moved into the public domain we can certainly host.

So if you accumulate a collection of on-topic ebooks, please note which ones are public domain, and we can host copies of every single one of those.  If you have any questions about this, please ask.  And if you can agree to the terms of "public domain or permission given", we can setup a library maintenance membergroup with ability to edit this collection of books.

well actually...I have a good few hundred currently, in the public domain. Anything that is copyrighted, is only for commercial use and distribution free of charge (as with the O.T.O and Crowley's works) is perfectly ok. Smiley

How much web space are we talking anwyway? I ahve almost 400 mbs of books and counting and nereus ahs about 500mbs. Now, while we need to sort out the duplicates, there will still be a massive amount of data, atleast 500mbs. Can veritas host all of that?

We have 23 GB of free space right now, and we can expand another 1 TB/month in bandwidth consumption.  So yeah, a few hundred ebooks would definitely fit.  Smiley

What do you think would be a good way to go about arranging this?  We have this infrastructure which is largely unused, and a portion could be adapted for this purpose.  One idea I had is that a library/ directory could be created (or the ebooks/ directory could be used), a "Library Team" membergroup could be created, and members of this library team could have access to the file manager for that directory and all of its subdirectories.  Then the material could be accessed raw through the file system, and organized via the wiki much like it is now, but simply with local hosting for the ebooks which can be hosted by us (and perhaps with more regular updates by the library team).

But that's just a thought.  I'm certainly open to any ideas about how to do this.

Tick, unneeded now, tick, tick, it changes. And I'll throw in a bonus obsessive tidiness and organisation.

deadly.  grin So, I'm not great when it comes to web coding so you pick how you wanna set it up. This is going to be great. But before we actually set up for transfer, I have 873 books that need cataloguing and duplicates need to be deleted. So, that's what we need the our V-Librarians for. We could break up the folder into chunks for everyone to organized by author or subject (or perhaps both) and then check that there's only one copy of each book and the formatting is universal, then we upload. And I'm still waiting on Nereus's folder of books so, I'm expecting almost 2000 books to sort through.

Adept! I missed your ugly self by--what, two minutes? AIM me when you get back on, or tell Xenobius to if you don't have AIM.

I could help- I'm not particularly knowledgeable with web coding, but I'll have plenty of time to read and organize the stuff once summer vac arrives.

Tick tick tick? >_>

Myself
Crowley
Shadowwarrior13
Nereus
And Zake

Yay, 5.

OK, if I ever figure out how to set up the damn torrent file, I'll send it out. Formatting for the files will go as follows:

* Full naming of the file (underscores_not_spaces) [i.e. P.M.E.pdf will become The_Practice_of_Magical_Evocation.pdf)
* Named file will be copied to a Folder with the Authors name on it [i.e. copy to Franz Bardon]
* Named file will be Copied to a Folder with the Subject on it. [i.e. Copy to Hermetics, and/or Summoning]

Everyone will be assigned a latter of the alphabet to work through until were done A to Z. Then, we upload, but rather than add the same file three or four times per category, the file will be added to the Author list and linked to the other categories. That saves uploading time and space on the server.

On a side note, duplicate files need to be deleted, however, the same book, different translation or publisher, should be added twice and noted as such.

So, that's how V-Library will be set up folks. Its also open to changes, its not set in stone.

I notified you in the chatroom. I will be able to offer my hand to this, and have  huh er... 3/5 (and Wiki code is easily learnable).
