1. I use a Mac. That's my first problem.

2. I can't connect to the chatroom. That's the real problem. Whenever I use the java client, it displays this message.

*** Failed to launch Ident server : java.net.BindException : Permission denied

I just moved into my college dorm, so I'm using their connection... I talked to tech support here, and they said they don't block out any chatrooms. However, they were also utterly incapable of helping me connect to the chatroom.

I've tried using another client, Colloquy, but that hasn't worked so far either.

I can connect to AIM just fine, as well as every webpage I've tried thusfar, but I can't connect to the chatroom for the life of me.

Any ideas?

i'm pretty sure there is a mac version of trillian which is an all in one chat and messenger client.

...

wait, nope. Trillian is windows exclusive it appears.

Still, I've heard of other all-in-one programs that might help out. Might go that route.

*** Failed to launch Ident server : java.net.BindException : Permission denied

This error is irrelevant, and does not stop you from connecting.

If you think your college may be blocking irc, it is easy to check.  Open up a standard telnet client, and telnet to irc.sorcery.net port 6667.  For a successful connection you should see something that starts like:

NOTICE AUTH :*** Processing connection to shire.sorcery.net
NOTICE AUTH :*** Looking up your hostname...
NOTICE AUTH :*** Found your hostname

(Then just close the telnet client.)

If you see those things, your college is not blocking irc, and you simply have a software problem.  If you cannot telnet to that port, then it is being blocked, and you would then need to speak with someone who knows more than the tech support guy at the front desk.

Best Mac client available, imo.

Alright, this XChat seems to be working. I don't know what the problem was with the other two clinets... but if I'm able to access the channel now, I'm not complaining.

Thanks. Smiley

Best Mac, in my opinion;

EPIC ANSWER TO EPIC PROBLEM!!!
1. Take a chainsaw to the Mac (it's parts are useless, so don't bother saving them)
2. Go to Circuit City (yes, it's better than Best Buy.)
3. Buy an HP M8150N (don't let the price distract you)
4. ? ? ? ?
5. PROFIT!!!!

LMAO. I was kind of just joking. Of course they are useful, but because I hate Mac's so much, I tell myself that their suck level is so high that they are completely useless, in every way.

No processor is useless. A guy made a supercomputer out of Wii's, I bet Mac hardware will be even better.

That mode of thinking is comparable to racism. Wink

But Windows completely owns Macintosh.

Well, Bill Gates owns Windows. I think that's about it though.
