Hi,
I was just thinking and I am wandering if there ever been a mage war in some sort.
Or did mages spell binds a evil mage or even kill him/her in the past.

"War" is a bit of a grand term, but if you are asking whether or not there have ever been mages that have battled one another, then the answer is a most definate "yes." It should go without saying that an art which can cause harm can do so towards a specific person, and that if that person is a mage himself, he can sense from whence that attack came and retaliate. At that point you have the two necessary components of a battle: attack and retaliation. As for mages gathering together and binding some evil magician, one must remember that the emotions associated with the idea of "evil" tend to fade as the magician matures. If you are thinking of some Hollywood-esque battle between good and evil magicians, then no, it has never happened to my knowledge. The closest thing to it would be the battles between the Great White Lodge of the Masters and the Black Brotherhood (The Great Black Lodge, from whence comes our ever popular Grand Grimiore).
If you'd like to learn a little more about these things, I've written two articles concerned on the subject which are best read together:

Part II:
Metaphysical Defense

Crowley vs. Mathers (it was Mathers, right? or Wescott? I think Mathers)
Obviously none of this is proven but...
uhh....
Mathers died.

There is rumor that the death of Matthers was the result of a battle with Crowley over the course of several months. As you said its not proven, but what is known is that during this supposed time period both of them suffered horribly in health, and both of them lost many valuable things. Matthers, for example, lost several thousands of dollars worth of horses, Crowley lost his favorite hunting dog along with a deal of the exotic plantlife he owned, and so forth bouncing to and fro. In the end Matthers died from essentially unknown causes.

Wow, so its quite possible that Crowley killed someone accidentaly(in a manner of speaking)? I didn't think anything would really go that far.

It has been said that Crowley killed two people, so yeah, he went that far.... I'd go that far, but then Karma or whatever would kick in and beat the heck out of me...... 0_0

A good book on the histroy of Crowley would be "The Illustrated Beast", "Diary of a Drug Fiend," "Do what Thou Wilt", "Megatherion: The Magickal World of Aleister Crowley" and "The Eye in The Triangle."
Concerning willing no harm, supposedly not. The view is that everyone is subject to be "responsible" for their actions UNTIL they reach a certain stage of their development where they are beyond karma, and all karmic effects are burnt away, at such a stage they are free to do as they will, so to speak. Such a stage is talked about in both western occultism and eastern mysticism, however, usually is not realized until one becomes "adept." Yes, you can bind a person to not do magick.

I never really got the whole binding thing. Sure, you could bind someone to fail t anything thing magically malevolent, but if there will is stronger than yours, then obviously the binding would flop. A shield would serve better IMO. oh and why were Crowley and Mathers at "war"? I recall Mather's initiating Crowley into 5=6 and then crowley turned and helped the revolt in London to overthrow mathers. I didn't understand why.

Mathers would not initiate Crowley to the next grade when Crowley though he was ready. Crowley broke his oath and revealed alot of the golden dawn's secrets to the public. Mathers was also having alot of problems with other "adepts" at the time as well, wanting to break off and form their own orders, and enforcing their personal beliefs, something Mathers believed should not be done. i.e. You cannot be gay to work in this order.

Binding does not work between magicians unless the will of the one being bounder in inferior to that of the one doing the binding. This is the general rule of magic, that he with the strongest will always prevails in a direct conflict of power. Furthermore, if one is bound at a time when he is inferior in power, there may come a time when he is superior than the bind put upon him and can therefore break it himself. In most cases of binding magicians, superior celestial spirits are consulted and asked to operate the binding. In this case, the magician can not break the bind manually unless he is mightier than that particular high entity, which is a rare occasion indeed. This same rule applies to spirits, and so when a spirit is bound into working for a magician, it is only after a petition to the entity that rules the lesser spirit. As an interesting aside, though I am not a large fan of Crowley, it is said that he came very close to binding Gamagen, the third name of Lucifer, into submission by himself. Quite the testament of his willpower.
Regarding the overthrow of Matthers, it is best summed up by one word: Ambition.

Are there any online books?
I know this has nothing to do with this thread but people were just talking about entities
Are there any summoning classes coming up?
