Keeping the root lock gives me some problems as my abs also tend to stress and breathing is a bit harder that way.
Not much feeling from this exercise, except my palms becoming hot, after the exercise I tend to feel more centered and grounded (being more here and now), especially useful upon waking up.

In the beginning I conciously kept my abs relaxed, now it's already pretty automatic, at least while meditate.
