To begin with, I'd like to say I am not a professional scientist, psychotherapist, or hypnotherapist. I am just like you, seeking answers and following seeds of wizdom. Many years ago I tried everything to help me accomplish a good many things- loosing weight, improved memory, brain power, and astral projection with the use of both subliminal tapes and brain wave music that included a guided meditation part. At the time, each project was marginally successful depending on how badly I wanted the goal. That lead me to wonder why. Why is it that this cassette tape or CD that I play while I am relaxed opened up doors that I could not open before. It wasn't for several more years that I understood with the introduction to Huna and the explainations of the low, middle and high self. Max Freedom Long and his work with Jose Silva of the Silva Mind Control Method and hundreds of web pages far too numberous to list have supplied the massive resources that I draw from to give you just a bit of what I have learned. Be warned that I will repeat several points often so that you have these ideas impressed upon your mind and hopefully understanding.

Quantum Mechanics

Let me explain that consciousness studies fall under the category of quantum mechanics. A man named Robert Penrose figured out that science could not explain what consciousness was. In consciousness, your brain wave is the same whether you lift your arm or not and this made no sense to him in normal physics. Physics works on the ability to measure where any object is at any given space in time. Say you have a ball that you are holding at shoulder level. With physics, you can meansure a number of things at any moment from heighth, gravity, thickness, force, and so on. Our brains, on the other hand, have the same exact thought the instant before you make the decision whether or not to drop the ball. You are in the same exact state if you drop the ball or don't drop the ball. This mechanism violates normal deterministic physics so it -cannot- explain consciousness. Probability, however, can explain consciousness because either you will drop the ball or you won't. You can calculate the odds based on this. The area of physics that works on the odds of probability is called quantum mechanics in that it can explain the changes that take place. At the time Roger Penrose figured this out, there were no mechanisms in the brain that explained what happens because the nerve cells are so large, but a medical doctor later found that there were little tubes that ran up in the cerebral cortex and between nerve cells and end right under the chemical packet that, when stimulated, create the brain wave. These tubes are so small that they oscillate. When they shake one way, the chemical connectors spread out to block the signal from getting acrosst and prevent a wave. When they shake the other way, they stimulate chemicals to react to make a brain wave.

Consciousness works directly on the probability around you. In Quantum physics, probability is related to the potentials of the energy fields around us. The nerve system works on the electromagnetic potentials and its sensitive microvolts so we have this incredibly sensitive system, that once tuned into, can feel both the energy fields around us and the wave they make. When we learn to calibrate, we can change that potential and see how it changes the "luck" in our environment. This has actually been done for centuries and in many cultures although it wasnt known how is works, just that it did. Science has now caught up with and can explain how you can walk into a room and sense energy, positive or negative, and find states within you and apply your own energy flow to change your environment so the potentials change which in turn change the probability and outcome.

Divisions of the Mind

It is my belief that for you to use the programs and tips the the greatest degree, a general understanding of a little how the brain works, specifically the divisions between the consciousness, subconsciousness and the super consciousness is greatly needed. These are 3 separate and distinct areas that work so closely together, especially the consciousness and subconsciousness, that they are often mistakenly lumped into one category. Once a person starts to treat them separately, changes are much more forthcoming. The conscious self, the part of us that does the active thinking and which has logic makes decisions is the state we are usually in. This is also attached to a specific brain wave called beta. This is referred to as the outer consciousness and oscillates afrom 13-25 cycles per second. The faculties you use in reading this now are only the very tip of hte ice burg.

The mind works together like a factory. The superconscious is the CEO, the head honcho of this corporaton that is your body and mind. The consciousness works as the management of the company. It tells the the subconscious what to do and contains the thinking/logic. The subconscious does all the hard work. Just a few things the subconscious is responsible for are:

habit and instinct
all memory retrieval and storage
runs the body and all autonomic systems
contains the perfect blueprint of health
follows directions but if energy field is low, it follows the strongest field. It cannot tell the difference between your command, that of someone else or a spirit.
can be highly moral depending on the programming. Contains all personal beliefs and environemntal programming such as how you were raised.
controls all sensory input example: MPD or multiple personalities, one is diabetic, another wears glasses as well as voice differences.
stores, generates, transmits and distrubutes all energy
needs repitition as in pavolvian conditioning for long term projects
uses and responds to symbols and talks to us in dreams with symbolic usage.

The subconscious is often compared to a computer with good reason. What we put in determines how the computer will act. Change the program and the instructions and you get a different function. Just as the computer runs a lot of programs in the background that many of us are not aware of, so does the subconscious mind. Our subconscious mind lies below the level of our conscious awareness and it stores all the information that comes in through our senses. It also houses all our memories, and our emotions. It controls most of our bodily systems like breathing, heart beat, digestion, and eye blinking. It also takes over for us when we are doing repetitive tasks such as walking, driving, typing and sports. This is why you don't really need to think much about these things once you learn them. But do you remember what it was like when you were learning? Every movement was very deliberate--that's because it was your conscious mind doing it. Once the subconscious got the hang of it and took over, everything became much smoother and automatic.

The Vast Subconscious Mind
The subconscious works alot like a computer. Although it might be very fast, is of little use unless it has a program to tell it what to do. The subconscious mind is like that too. All your memories and experiences become your master operating system that directs and controls your life. Your operating system controls your emotions and success patterns in your career and relationships. It actually determines whether you are positive and happy most of time, or depressed and moody at others. Even your habits that you might often feel like a slave to and find difficult to change, are controlled by your subconscious mind. Your subconscious is especially important to you in your career. For instance if you are not making as much money as you think you should, in most cases the reason is that the self-sabotaging and limiting programming in your subconscious is preventing you from having it. Even in school and in relationships, its the negative programming, the fact that you believe yourself not worthy of something and because you believe that, you don't achieve your fullest potential.

Your mind began absorbing input from those around you from the time you were born. You were told what you could do and what you couldn't do. You were told what was right and what was wrong. You were told that little ladies behaves in one way and little gentlemen in another. Your religion may have played a role telling you that certain things were sins. One researcher estimated that by the time children enter school they have been told no" over 40,000 times! All of what you were told and what you experienced as you were growing up formed the image that you had of yourself and the world around you. Because of the emotional energy used at the time of impressing minds with what they can and cannot do, often the most humiliating or bad things are the ones we remember the most vividly. This can often explain relationsships gone bad, because some one has been "burnt" before and out of fear they make bad decisions and assumptions all based on the one highly emotional bad experience.

Ok, with all this junk in our heads, how do we fix it? Generally to change "beliefs" what is required is more information and for this new information to become permanent, you need to have a new experience that validates this information. You cannot just remove the junk and leave an empty space. This will be explained later in the Laws of the Mind. You may find it even easier if you listen to music when impressing the ideas upon the subconscious. The music needs to either helps you to remain in a relaxed state, not the type that gets you fired up and excited. Why? Because in a relaxed state, you start to go into an altered state called alpha brain wave where the subconscious is easier to communicate with and most importantly, the conscious mind is sort of temporarily put on pause so that the will is suspended and will not interfere. The subconscious mind also loves rhythm. Listening to music, for example, is one way to use rhythm. Drumming is one of the proven ways to alter your brain waves and lead you into a trance state. Dance is yet another way to experience the sensations you desire to imprint upon your subconscious throughout your body. One form of dancing you may consider is trance dancing, however depending on your purpose, any kind of dancing will do - as long as while you are dancing your mind is focused upon the idea you desire to impress upon your subconscious mind.

Another way to impress ideas on the subconscious mind is with symbolism and metaphors. They work better when you are using them to impress the subconscious mind of another person, where the person's subconscious is to get the appropriate meaning of an idea. The purpose of these metaphors is to by-pass the conscious awareness. Metaphors can be verbal, visual, material and can be expressed in action as in a ritual that often contains all the above mentioned metaphor/symbols. For instance, lets use the idea of a ritual. In the ritual words are spoken to represent what it is we want, often symbols are used, as well as tools and robes (physical metaphors for a particular mindset).

Subconscious mind is highly global in nature. One way this is expressed is that the subconscious sees everything as happening -NOW-. To successfully imprint ideas upon the subconscious, you must experience them as if they are happening -NOW-. You might recall an experience from the past but if you relive it to its fullest and following the feelings associated with the memory, you start to relive the emotional experience from the past and it has become a NOW experience. You may have some future event you are anticipating but the only way to truely live it is to find yourself progressed in the future moment. Another way the subconscious mind expresses its global nature is by not differentiating between what you perceive as happening only in your mind and what you perceive as being outside of you as in real. Its all the same to your subconscious. For your subconscious, the "reality" is determined by your feelings. In the same way, your subconscious mind also can not differentiate between how you see yourself and how you see others. In the Huna teachings, it is taught that the subconscious mind idenitifies itself with how you treat others. In this case, healing another or caring for another allows your own subconscious mind to do the same actions for yourself but this can work in reverse as well.

Okay, so after reading a little of a beginner course in what the subconscious does, and how it can work marvelously in your favor as well as against you, lets start in on our training of how to actually relax and go into alpha. Let me repeat that this is only one way of teaching to go to "state". This happens to come via the Jose Silva Mind Control courses and since you most likely cannot take a course in person, there is a slower way to do it at home in the comfort of your own bed or chair.

Relaxation here is the key and to do that you need to eliminate as much input as possible. The mind acts like a radio with over lapping signals coming in so what you get is a lot of junk. By eliminating signals one by one, you start to get a much clearer, more precise signal because all energy is devoted to the 1 band of frequency. Our minds operate on the same principle. With sensory deprivation you are able to eliminate other forms of input and gradually focus on one thing and by not splitting the energy into so many directions, you have 1 strong clear signal. Laying down or sitting still eliminates the kinesthic input, closing our eyes eliminates the visual, and incidently, anytime your eyes are open and -focused-, you jump out of alpha brain wave. Now you can either find a silent dark room or you can get something that makes grey or white noise. My favorite is a fan to disguise the regular household sounds of traffic on the street or possibly the neighbors flushing their toilet upstairs, etc. Once you have those 3 things eliminated, it is important to just simply relax.

To relax it is sometimes necessary to manually walk yourself step by step through the process. This might sound silly or rediculous at first and some might think that this gets them no where in their work on psi, but it absolutely will. There is so much talk about meditation these days and how is seems manditory to do in order to get anywhere with spiritual matters but consider that meditation is a form of stress reduction, a time to quiet the mind and body into one of a focused state. Amazingly, that is the same goal we are doing as well, so if you need a mind set that this is meditation, then it absolutely is! Starting with your right foot, tense the muscles as tight as you can and hold for a few seconds and then release. Feel the muscles relax and the tension wash away. One exercise was to feel like a cement block, that we were so heavy we could not move and that all the tenseness melted into the floor. The heavier your body felt, the more muscular control you voluntarily gave up. Now move up to the right calf, tense and release in the same manner. Do the right thigh and buttocks and then move to the left foot and so on until you have completely done every single muscle group and part of your body.

During the time it took to complete the exercise, you should have noticed that your thoughts have settled and focused on that one single task at hand. Now that you are finnished, your mind could potantially start up again. If this happens, just simply let the thoughts fade and do not dwell on them. The silva method takes a student through a 40 day course of gradually focusing in the alpha brain wave but those that are already used to using alpha on a daily basis may feel as if not much is happening. I noticed that after 20 or so days of following the regiment, that I felt as if I were still in beta (active) brain wave. This was explained that as we get more conscious controll over our relaxed states that we start to access alpha more and more in our active lives and will then start to go deeper and be able to function with more conscious controll in theta. Why use alpha over theta to start out with? Because alpha gives us enough consciousness to be able to impliment the instructions to the subconscious without conscious interference. If one goes too far into an altered state, sleep is usually quick to follow and the hard work is lost.

So for the next 10 days, you will start with the relaxation technique first. Then you will begin by counting down from 100-1 with short intervals inbetween numbers. One thing that helped me was to visually picture a movie screen in my mind and to see the numbers counting down. Those of you that are older may remember movie projectors used in school where the countdown before a movie started was played with something that resembled a doplar radar sweep of the arm. This is very effective for me but use something you are familiar with, be it a clock going backward, a counter rewinding in slow motion or some focus picture in your mind. Silva recomends that this be done 2 times a day, taking about 15-20 minutes. You can also access the same end state just as you are waking up from sleep or as you drift off to sleep.

Okay, so now you have counted back, what next? Now that you are in this magic state, you can impliment a number of things to yourself as auto suggestions. You can tell yourself to heal, you can do problem solving, you can give yourself instructions to replace negative programming, etc. The possibilities are nearly endless what you can do. I would suggest if you are doing psi, that this is the time to do such things as programming shields, implimenting the foundation that you believe and can achieve effortless energy manipulation and so on. Later on I will be showing you how to anchor this state to re-access it instantly for those on-the-fly situations.

Relaxation Countdown Part 2

For the last 10 days you have hopefully been following the 100-1 backwards count to get to alpha state. Now you can progress to counting backwards from 50-1 with the same technique. You should also be noticing little changes in focus and relaxation. If you dont notice much difference, its possible that you are already familiar with accessing this state in meditation without being aware. If this is you, please don't skip ahead just yet. After the next 10 days of counting back from 50-1, you can then progress to 10 days of 25-1 and 10 days of 10-1 then 10 days of 5-1.

There are many levels of alpha and it takes practice and persistence to get there but it is well worth the time and investment in yourself. Reaching this level is an end to in itself to changing a great many things. The health benefits alone are well worth it to learn to take control of your mind and to give the subconscious orders rather then the subconscious being a freight train out of control and you following along, hanging on for your dear life. Accessing alpha goes far beyond the passive meditation and I will be giving you some other methods to use for quicker access in the near future. You can use these methods for problem solving at its very best no matter what the size. This doesnt sound too exciting at first but the power to use this method coupled with decision making and self improvement is so far reaching and life altering. Once you learn to access the inner conscious levels of alpha with their own sensing abilities different then those of beta, you are learning to operate psychically anytime you want. Learing to tap into alpha is learning to awaken and sharpen the psychic skills you already possess but have been locked out of your reach because of the programming creating obstacles.

The really neat thing about working on the inner conscious states is that you cannot bring your anger, stress and worries into this state. Its literally impossible. If these thoughts do start to creep up, you are immediately popped out of alpha state. As you continue to learn, these feelings will stay away longer and longer and eventually are neutralized all together expecially when you use all the tools together. I am not saying that you wont still get angry or worry from time to time but that you now have a different tool to help you work on problem solving so that these feelings aren't stalking you anymore. This means that you can unblock the anger and frustration and strees and worry from plaguing you and making you unhealthy. You can free up all that energy you spend in more negative ways and free up your bodys built in system for healing itself.

Accessing alpha is quite easy and you did it from the first time you counted backward from 100 to 1. In fact you access alpha more often then you probably realise. The easiest is right before sleep when you are drowsy and right when you start waking up but not completely awake. Its easy to use this time to do work by allowing yourself an extra 15 mins in the morning and waking up slowly, go to the bathroom if you need and then set the alarm for some extra time just in case you fall back asleep and then do the counting backwards routine. With your eyes closed, look up at a 20 degree angle. This automatically starts alpha brain waves but researchers still don't understand why. As long as it works, use it to your advantage. Use the same method every single time only altering the level of advancement from 100 down to 50 then to 25 and so on when the 10 days are up for each level. If you don't use the same method, you make it twice as hard to train, making your subconscious work harder on more then one regime at a time. This also helps you to stick to one method and the mind won't spontaneously pop out of alpha.

You are actually establishing 2 routines here. The first is to progressively go into alpha and the other is a routine for coming out. Both are very important to learn! To come out of state, it is important to use the same script every single time as follows:
"I will slowly come out as I count from one to five, feeling wide awake and better then before. One, Two---prepare to open your eyes ---three- open eyes ---four---five---eyes open, wide awake, feeling better then before."
The reason that you could backwards to induce inner consciousness and count forward to come out might seem obvious to some but not as much to others. Counting backwards has a way of slowing things down, to break conscious barriers but telling a person to relax, there is no anticiaption of an event to happen like there is counting forwards. To count up is like saying, "Ready....Set...GO!". So one method to cound back for relaxation and the next to energize.

Relaxation Countdown Part 3 Reaching Level

Now that you have learned to reach level counting from 5 -1, you are ready to learn to go to level any time of the day, you only need a few spare minutes, about 15 because you will be going from beta to light alpha level with a little extra training for an on the spot session. Find a place to sit in a comfortable chair with feet flat on the floor or lieing on the bed. The key here is to be comfortable and relaxed and at ease. Start with one part of the body to consciously relax and then move to the rest so that each part of the body is mentally walked thru relaxation. Now pick a spot about 45 degrees above eye level on the wall or even ceiling in front of you, this is about the same angle you would be viewing a movie from if you were sitting in the middle of a theatre. Gaze at the spot until you feel your eye lids beginning to get heavy and let them close. You need not stare for hours and force it, give yourself permission to relax and let it flow nice and easy. To start to feel this way should not be taking more then a few minutes at most. Begin the first step of this training counting backwards from 50 -1, the next 10 days will be 25-1, the next 10 days will be 10-1 and lastly 5-1. Since this is a whole new regiment and not utilizing alpha state in the morning, try to practice this new practice 2 or more times a day using approximately 15 minute sessions.

Now that you are at the desired state, where do you go from here? What can you do and how? From the very start, the very first time you are in this state it is imparitive that you utilize visualization skills because they are key. Why? Because words can have more then one meaning and be confusing at best at times, at others they cannot adequately express the the full idea or "picutre". Pictures are worth a thousand words and convey a complete idea without a long explaination and we want easy simple concepts to communicate. The better you learn to visualize, the more powerful your experiences will be.

Creating a tool to use for visualization is your first step. You want to make a mental projection screen as if you are going to the movies and watching your own mental movie in your mind. In this sense you dont want the projection screen to be too close to you, you want to mentally view it a few feet away. This is where you will project what it is that you want to focus and concentrate on for future uses. Start off by testing it out with projecting something you are very familiar with. I have used the example of a lemon in the past , so lets use it again and recreate that lemon on the screen in full detail. Use as many senses as you can to recreate it. Feel it's bumpy waxy texture of the peel, the citrus scent and the full 3-D experience with as many senses as you can. Then imagine yourself cutting it in half. The scent is sharper now and the juice squirts in a spray. Imagine some happens to get in your mouth and you taste the droplets and how your face cringes at the taste. You might even feel your body shiver and pucker. If other thoughts invade you as you do this, gently push them away, do not entertain them or get caught up in the inner dialog, go back to your project and continually focus on what you want to create. If you get angry, frustrated or upset, you spring out of alpha right away so give no energy to these stray thoughts. The more you learn to focus and learn to visualize, the more confidence you will gain and it creates a nice positive cycle.

This technique is called passive meditation and can also be accomplished in other ways. Focusing on your breath, a sound such as OM, drumming, chanting and even dancing and combinations of all the above will bring you to a peaceful meditative mindset. The Silva method uses counting backwards because learning to utilize this state takes some concentration and concentration is what creates success for you with a proven method that works. When you reach your level over and over with success, the whole act begins to become and "anchor point" meaning that you remember you were successful before and the times before that and the mind instantly associates the whole act of going to state with this method as positive and over time will become almost effortless, like learning to ride a bike.

With a anchor point, the mind will go back to that experience with consciously or unconsciously, relive it and then go from there. Once you get into that alpha meditative state, to wait for something to happen is just not enough although it is a great means within itself. You will get many benefits to health and stress reduction just learning to relax and calm yourself but to just wait for something to happen is passive and you are not using these skills to the maximum ability. There is a great deal more potentially possible to achieve.

It is amazing to me how little control of this powerful mind we seem to have at times, the same mind that can create illness and disorders can, when used right, also do amazing things like the memorization of great pieces of work, complete healing, communication with the highself and more. This brain is far to powerful to leave in that uncontroled state to sabotage yourself. Gaining control of it will take you to some incredibly astounding places in your life and the uses are limitless!
