Some of the effects of marijuana use include increased heart rate, dryness of the mouth, reddening of the eyes (congestion of the conjunctival blood vessels), a reduction in intra-ocular pressure, mild impairment of motor skills and concentration, and increased hunger. Electroencephalography shows somewhat more persistent alpha waves of slightly lower frequency than usual.[2] Cannabis also produces many subjective effects, such as greater enjoyment of food's taste and aroma and an enhanced enjoyment of music and comedy. At higher doses, cannabis can cause marked distortions in time and space perception, altered body image, auditory and/or visual (more like daydreams) hallucinations, ataxia from selective impairment of polysynaptic reflexes, and depersonalization. Marijuana generally relieves tension and provides a sense of euphoria. There is a more complete list of effects at cannabis (drug).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electroencephalography#Activity_types Check there to see a short list of various activities associated with each "brainwave frequency" range. Alpha isn't even very useful for light meditations (notice how it's described as basically closing your eyes and sitting still) let alone for more meaningful meditations. :)

Psionics / Re: Interesting problem.

I only skimmed other peoples' replies so I don't know if someone else has already mentioned this but while your problem is almost guaranteed to be uncontrolled telepathy, that doesn't mean it's only the receptive side :) You could be projecting as well. I say it's unimportant because conversation often is unimportant (unless it's a conversation where you're helping someone get over a problem of some sort, and in that case telepathy applied with wisdom is very helpful :)).

So continue trying to learn how to control it, but don't sweat it in the meantime :)

Welcome to uncontrolled telepathy :) I suggest you continue practicing and ignore the effects as they're rather unimportant :)

Psionics / Re: Rare Aura Ability
« on: January 03, 2007, 09:20:03 AM »
What? Since when do auras never change? Nearly every source I've read about them state that auras constantly change as they are but a mere reflection of who we are internally and what our current state of mind/body/soul/emotions are.

As Solstice requested, please give a better description of what you're talking about because you're not talking about the classically recognized aura :)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psychoactive_drug
A number of animals consume different psychoactive plants and animals, berries and even fermented fruit, clearly becoming intoxicated (for instance, catnip). Traditional legends of sacred plants often contain references to animals that introduced humankind to their use.[7]

At least one person thinks humans aren't the only ones, and s/he even wrote a book about it. Does that make it intelligent to start consuming natural psychedelic drugs just because animals do it? Well, wolves chew through their own legs when caught in traps but you'll never see me doing that ;)

http://vsociety.net/wiki/Psi_articles Psi Articles. Read them. Do them.

http://forums.vsociety.net/topic/8658.0 Beginning Daoist Qigong by Koujiryuu. Also read this and do it, as energy work is energy work regardless of what you call it and it will help you out.
http://forums.vsociety.net/topic/4858.0 Daily Magical Practices by Prophecy. If you're up to more practice, and if what you say is true then this should be welcome to you, then read this article as well and do what you can out of it.

And finally, if you really want to jump full force into daily practices which can strengthen your mind and develop your abilities, find Initiation into Hermetics and jump to the exercises area where you shall begin the practice of the first set of practices (the basic exercises given in IIH are universal to everyone wanting to develop themselves, not just for the magician). After starting the first set of practices, go back to the beginning and read what Franz Bardon has to say so that later exercises will make sense as you read them and try to do them. Click here for a pdf version of a good-enough translation of Bardon's book. According to some people I've talked to there is another translation out there which is more recent and which conforms to the English language better so pick that up if you want, but at least this one is free and handy :)

Good luck in your pursuits, and welcome to Veritas :)

Hello and Goodbye / Re: Hello :)

Well, Kak, may you have a better time under your real name than under the other one.

Steve is Kak?

If so, I'm surprised you actually created a new account, rather than just changing the name on the old account.  Any particular reasoning for not doing that?
I did it so I can remind myself to calm down and not to be a jerk when I get the urge to get mad at people, so that I'm not acting like "kakkarot" but like myself instead. Oddly enough, when I first came here and started posting under kakkarot I did feel like myself and not "a semi-anonymous user hiding behind a nick who has various stigmas attached to him of how people view him and how they think he should act and talk", but over time I have grown to post as kakkarot rather than myself, so as one of the ways in which I am changing my whole life to become a better person again I am taking this step of relinquishing my tie to kakkarot.

As I mentioned in the chat, I'm now going by my real name as I want to feel more accountable for myself rather than sometimes feeling like I can be a dick because I'm using a pseudonym. I hope to be a better person from this day forward :)
