Magick / Re: Bit off more than I could chew at a cemetery: Ghosts?
« on: August 19, 2016, 06:18:58 PM »
Thank you, you've been infinitely more helpful than other people I've been asking.

Seriously? It's a freakin' cemetery. A lot of ghosts and shades of the dead literally live there, the cemetery itself is usually consecrated ground (all kinds of witchcraft spells use Gravedirt), and it's also a place that's an entrance to the underworld for some people who go on shamanistic Journeys. Most people aren't sensitive to such activity, but people with talent and no training attract trouble like honey attracts bugs.

The odd thing is for her most cemeteries are actually very quiet, she gets no sense of activity at all, we walked through another one earlier that evening (which was in a church yard) and according to her it was no different to walking in a park, which is apparently her experience with all cemeteries so far, sometimes if she tries to open herself up she can sense quiet ghosts, very subtle and passive.

I've been telling her she's been approaching this quite recklessly and needs to train herself to be able to block these influences, etc. She is quite an impulsive "leap without looking" person, I was already intending to refuse to take her to a cemetery again until she has worked on refining her talent, she isn't so daring to go alone, but maybe with somebody else which concerns me as I'm the only one she knows who has any experience or ability with magick. *shrugs* I can't control her, she is a worry sometimes.

Magick / Bit off more than I could chew at a cemetery: Ghosts?
« on: August 19, 2016, 10:19:41 AM »
Hia, long time since I've been around, but I had an experience which isn't in my area of expertise and I need to open the floor to those more experienced than myself in these matters, please give your thoughts on what occurred and how to proceed.

Here is the short version:

My partner is sensitive to ghosts, I was skeptical about spirits until tonight, ghosts aren't my thing and I still think the vast majority of 'hauntings' are fake or the result of an overactive imagination/hallucinations.

When she sees them its (until tonight) only one at a time, right before the encounter she feels faint, then when she sees it the whole rest of the world drops away for her, her only awareness is of the ghost. She either experiences what they experienced in their last moments, such as when she had horrible chest pains and a sense of laying on the ground, when she walked to the bottom of a set of stairs in a house, where she later discovered the previous owner had fallen down the stairs and consequently died a heart attack on that spot, or she babbles uncontrollably trance like about what the ghost is doing and saying to her. Afterwards she is extremely unsettled and has difficulty reengaging with reality for a short time, and usually feels very drained and fatigued.

This only occurs with what she terms 'loud ghosts' which are typically people who died in a state of anguish and pain, she sometimes encounters 'quiet ghosts' but she has to willing open herself up to them, they do not intrude and hijack her consciousness forcefully, she is simply aware of them as shadowy figures.

Tonight while walking the perimeter of a cemetery we both encountered at the same time a distinctive and strong energy in our solar plexus which in both cases radiated into our chests (I'm not very sensitive to energy at all, so this is surprising), and then at another point along the edge where the high walls drop away to be replaced by a low wooden fence and the cemetery is visible, we were both struck again by it more strongly, in her case (being more sensitive) she was near catatonic and had to be dragged back to the car. She described it as similar to her previous 'loud ghost' experiences but too many at once (she saw dozens and dozens of shadowy figures in the cemetery), and they didn't make a desire or sense of themselves known as others do, they simply overwhelmed her and drained her, she was extremely fatigued, later at her apartment I noticed her eyes had become very bloodshot.

On the way home we both felt some traces of the energy attached to us. When we got home she did a centering/grounding and as I saw her come back to herself I felt something like the energy from the cemetery proliferate into the room, I felt it try to attach to my body but I banished it and a few minutes later it dissipated. (we were burning white sage and a storm had come over the building)

I then did my own banishing, grounding and centering.

She has told me in the past that cemeteries are always completely devoid of spiritual activity in her experience, she has only ever seen very very subtle 'quiet ghosts' in such places.

What I want to know:
How typical are her experiences/symptoms of people who encounter ghosts? What do you make of the experience? Why might a cemetery have been so spiritually active in this way? She is determined to go back at some point, so how can we better prepare for encountering such a strong force again?

Magick / Physical Exertion During Ritual
« on: December 24, 2012, 07:31:31 AM »
Often during the LBRP or similar rituals, when inhaling and projecting elemental energy I find myself sweating heavily even in cold weather, (hot weather can leave me light headed and faint), unless I specifically make a point of absorbing a good deal of energy at the end of the ritual I will find myself feeling physically drained and exhausted.

Has anybody had similar experiences when energy working in ritual? How have you managed it?

Magick / Re: Elemental cardinal directions
« on: October 18, 2012, 07:31:43 AM »
Fire = South:
We are mostly talking about Magickal system created and used northern hemisphere, South being associated with fire is logical there (equator).

The question isn't "what is the cardinal direction of the elements" the question is "why are the elements so associated" , I made note in my original post that I was aware that the north south associations depended on the hemisphere.

In your opinion, and to the best of your understanding, WHY should the elements be associated with their directions, what is the reasoning behind it?

Magick / Elemental cardinal directions
« on: October 09, 2012, 06:19:31 AM »
There's something about the association between cardinal directions and elements that has never made sense to me, and I was wondering if other people had noticed.

The importance of cardinal directions has a lot to do with the motion of the sun, rising in the east and setting in the west (cresting in the north or south depending on what side of the equator you're on)

So it makes sense why (in the northern hemisphere anyway), Water is associated with the west as this is where (from our perspective on earth) the world is receiving the sun, so we associate the receptive element with that direction. North being Earth makes sense since the sun never traverses to the north, that is the side in darkness, also the element is associated with death in some ways, and so being where the sun has (from our perspective on earth) descended into, we associate it with the death of the sun.

However, what doesn't make sense to me is why Fire is associated with the South, and Air with the East....

Air is an element of medium, balance, the interplay of the active and passive, expansive and receptive. If anything it should represent the South, the sun in transit between its initial spark of birth (Fire) and being received (Water). Fire would seem a more natural representative for the East, as this is where the initial creative spark of the sun comes into being from the darkness.

Thoughts?

Magick / Re: Whats a good enity for my first evocation?

Its better to learn to juggle before attempting with kitchen knives. At best they'll just fall on the floor and at worst you'll cut yourself.

I'm just going to quote what I've already said, sorry to be a bitch about this but it is very annoying to have people deliberately ignore what I've said so that they can get their snark on.

Naturally you should prepare for whatever skill you intend to master, you cant expect to become a good painter until you understand; colour theory, composition, paint mixing, brush technique and a host of other things, BUT if you spend 30 years just doing that and never putting brush to canvas...you're hardly a painter. I'm aware that making big mistakes in magick carries far more serious consequences than fouling up a canvas, but the idea is the same, you can only focus on theory and technique for so long before you go from being prepared to being fearful of actually trying.

My advise is to make a list of the skills you really need to perform a simple evocation, then make a plan (including scheduling hours of practice each day/week) for training in these skills. Never EVER lose sight of your goal, otherwise you'll simply get into the habit of training the skills for their own sake and your drive will diminish, when you feel confident that you can try a basic evocation, go for it!

Read above, because you evidently did not the first time. I think I was very clear about not rushing into dangerous things and the difference between foul ups in magick and in minor mundane metaphors.

If you don't have the confidence to summon, then you shouldn't. Evocation is a practice that takes years to master.

I hate that attitude, its exactly that mindset that has people spending years and years putting off any magical work of any complexity or serious scope out of fear that they "aren't ready yet" and next thing they know they're 50 years old and have spent the last 30 years rehashing basic training exercises that most practitioners move on from after only a year or two, they then look back and wonder what the hell happened to their life? The answer being they forgot the third quality of the sphinx is to DARE, Will and Knowledge can only form a foundation, a foot hold, if you are unwilling to DARE you will never get anywhere.

Naturally you should prepare for whatever skill you intend to master, you cant expect to become a good painter until you understand; colour theory, composition, paint mixing, brush technique and a host of other things, BUT if you spend 30 years just doing that and never putting brush to canvas...you're hardly a painter. Its better to try and fail than never try at all.

Magick / Using Enviromental Audio in Group Ritual?
« on: February 26, 2012, 05:56:55 AM »
Recently I've been getting together a group of practitioners and soon we'll be doing a group ritual, nothing too complex but part of it involves raising the elements.

Now we've been thinking about having an audio track specially constructed of ambient environmental noise (Not Music) for each element, played softly and non obtrusively.

i.e

During the raising of Fire there is ambient audio of fire crackling and burning, during the raising of air there is the sound of wind blowing, etc.

It would be designed to be non obtrusive as possible, the speakers would be placed equally at the four corners of the room, covered in dark fabric and turned low so the audio is ambient without clear origin, each track would be designed not to draw attention to itself, each track would loop until I press a button and then it will gently fade into the next elemental track.

The thing is I'm wondering if despite being designed to as non obtrusive as possible, will it detract from or prove a distraction from the ritual? Does anybody have experience with this? Any tips or tricks you've found with getting it to work well?

Magick / Re: Vampires

they will start by saying 'Nice idea...BUT.....' and switch to negative. Then find the 2 people who will do the opposite and actually become curious in your dream/goal and start asking you about it, telling you its a great idea and so on.

You rule out the possibility that it is a bad idea, if I was to start animatedly discussing a dream in which I realized that my perspective on reality was too conventional and crystallized which has lead me to decide to find, live with and quickly marry a woman with incredibly severe mental disorders, to the point that her ever shifting and fragmenting understanding of reality means she is unable to hold down job or home, let alone properly care for herself.

Well...I would HOPE that after trying to initially placate me with 'nice idea' (the spoon full of sugar helping the medicine go down), you would add a very large "but!..." I find that while there certainly are negative people around, just because somebody doesn't wholeheartedly support and agree with every possibly flawed idea that enters your mind, that doesn't mean they're a vampire. If anything I see that "but" as a positive thing some times, if they're pointing out potential flaws its as likely to mean they're concerned with your well being and wouldn't want you to suffer due to a factor you failed to consider.

Magick / Stopping breathing during meditation
« on: October 24, 2011, 09:09:56 AM »
Recently I've had a problem, whenever I get into a highly focused one pointed state, either when repeating a mantra or meditating on something, I stop breathing.

For some reason my breathing doesn't seem to continue unconsciously during this state, and I'm always drawn away from my focus by the need to reassert my breathing rythm,

Has this happened to anybody else, are there any techniques I can put into play to overcome this?

Twice I've traveled to a small house on a lake for a period of a week, with little else in my bags but books on magick and my tools, with the intention of having a period of intense magical work.

Though in both cases, while I succeeded in reading much, true inspiration and magical breakthroughs always eluded me, it was not until I returned home and stopped working at it that inspiration and progress would come.

I've learned to follow my own inner voice when it comes to moving off into a different environment to inspire magical growth, it cant be forced.

Magick / Re: Magic of the Golden Dawn Book

get it, read it, see what you think :)
have you read Frabato? I didn't think much of IIH until i read Frabato, after which everything changed. Before IIH i went through Golden Dawn Book, Israel's other books, Agrippa's huge book, other old magic books. After Frabato, I threw away all my other magic books, and focused only on IIH.

Funny, after reading Frabato I found that I viewed Bardon's work with a high degree of suspicion, it left me thinking "how spiritually evolved could he be if his last work was such an act of self congratulatory masturbation"...this was until I read that it was mostly written by his secretary after his death, using notes and fragments he left behind. Considering the level of guru worship that seems to occur in Bardon's case it doesn't surprise me that the book ended up that way.

Please tell me you gave away or sold your other books and didn't literally throw them out...?

The principle archangels and Christ can be evoked. The rituals of the pentagram are a way to begin this. Lessons are communicated in altered states of consciousness such as meditative trance or  dreamstate lessons where recall is enhanced immediately before sleep and immediately after waking. There is no danger in communicating with angels and avatars. But the dangers of evocation do come in the communication with demons which is pointless as they know nothing to impart and the risk is inherent by their nature. The Goetia will come to the magician in their season and Kaballah warns to wait for them and not to tempt them to create consequences for the magician by evoking them. They do appear when the magician is ready, too.

And what of this have you done yourself, and what was the result?

I choose based on what I want to learn about. If I want to learn about water, I'll put up a circle attuned to water and recite a request to be taught before going off to bed or deep meditation for dream or visionary guidance. Calling up something this way has pushed me into much deeper trance states than I can normally get to, so the spirits can accommodate your level of training, depending on who you get.

Interesting, this was something I was toying with myself. Thanks for sharing your experience.

The ritualistic placement of symbolic components in a pattern based on a developed system of mathematics/numerology to manipulate and weave specific energies into a complex magickal working...

You are AWESOME!

This is exactly the kind of style of magick I find fascinating! I've seen many examples in using geometry and it's mathematical/numerological attributes to ritualistically manipulate energy into specific forms, but never seen it done this way.

Creating your own methodologies goes such a long way to empowering your own magick, how did you develop this system?

Magick / Spirit Teachers
« on: May 15, 2011, 07:39:39 AM »
Hey all, I haven't made a post here in a while.

I've heard of people seeking out spirits to teach them magick, and I'm curious if anybody here has experience with this, particularly:

-The process of selecting and contacting a teacher spirit

-The means by which wisdom and lessons are communicated

-Dangers and pitfalls, words of warning (I'm sure these will feature prominently)

I'm not asking to have my research done for me, if anybody with experience could point me in the right direction and share their own experiences I'd be appreciative. I'm not certain this is something I would do, I'm certainly no novice when it comes to conducting my own research and experiments, though having some source other than my fellow human beings would be interesting.
