Good books on Buddha and Buddhism?

(1/2) > >>

OrangeJuice:
Can anyone recommend any good books on Buddhism? I'm mostly interested in books on the life of Buddha, but any good books on Buddhism will do. Anything inspirational is also good. There are just so many books on the subject out there that I don't always know what is credible and what is not. Thanks

Mind_Bender:
"Four Noble Truths" by His Holiness the Dalai Lama is one of my favorites.

For a psychological and neurological perspective, "Buddhas Brain" by Rick Hanson is really good.

"Dhammapada" of course, since it is suppossed to be Buddha in his own words.

OrangeJuice:
Perfect, the neuroscience one sounds right up my alley. Thanks!

If you want practical dharma type material I recommend:

Mastering the Core Teachings of the Buddha by Ingram, Daniel M
Pointing Out the Great Way by Brown, Daniel P
Anything by Jack Kornfield, Kenneth Folk, Dzogchen Ponlop, Lama Surya Das, Chogyam Ngakpa, Yongdzin Lopon Tenzi Namdak, John Myrdhin Reynolds and Chogyal Namkhai Norbu just to name a few.
